Credit Card Sales and Ministry

After sunday service, my wife and I had an unplanned dinner date and did some groceries. On the way out of the check out counter in the groceries, we were met by a young guy trying to sell us credit card of an established foreign bank.

He was energetic, lively and looked determined and driven. From the way he sells, he seems experienced. However, his friendliness and smile couldn't hide his tired and sunken eye bags. It's understandable as it was 9pm on a sunday night. I could barely keep my eyes opened after a long weekend. He was determined and passionate. He wasn't about to let initial rejections deter him. 'I'm not direct sales, i'm from the branch', he tried to persuade. His last plea 'I just need one more to go home'.

Something tells me inside that this is a target that he gave himself at the start of the day. That if i don't sell xxx amount today, i won't go home. That inner drive and motivation. I almost signed up just to reward him for his strong heartedness in relentless peservering. 9pm on a sunday night and needing to wake up for work the very next Monday morning, all over again. .

Credit Card sales is not for the faint-hearted. Neither is ministry. Serving God is not for faint-hearted.
to be continued ...
